Damn - Missed it!

Yesterday Ebuyer were selling Vista Home Premium for £40 + Free Delivery.
At the time I though this was an error but did nothing about it.
I mentioned it to Serena and she said I should grab a copy whilst it is cheap (RRP £68) so I went back this morning to find the price restored to £68.
ARSE!
At least I got a tax rebate of £300 this pay check (emergency tax codes and all that), which will help clear the holiday credit card bill and help me save the money (now £850) for the Media Centre.

PS I really want to get the snazzy MS Media Centre 7000 keyboard/mouse, but £85 is a bit steep! Maybe for Christmas! I can't seem to buy the 8000 in the UK yet but that is very snazzy too - I suspect that we are talking £160 for that one though (when you compare it to the Logitech equivalent).

You know, it was reading your earlier entry that made me remember that Vista has been out 6 months already.

Usually I'm an extremely early adoptre and would have installed it by now. That's strange. I have no doubt that there are teething problems, some things might not work - aren't there always? - but I'm also sure it will be stunning software too.

Still, doubt I'm going to buy it soon. Believe it or not I'm happy with what I've got!!! Arrgh! Middle-aged contentment is creeping up on me!

I have no intention of installing Vista on any of my old PCs until I have to.
XP is the better gaming platform at the moment and is vastly more stable as far as drivers is concerned. The DirectX 10 games out there are few and far between, and of the ones on the horizon only Crysis looks worth upgrading for.
Vista is very pretty (if your PC is fast enough to cope with Aero) and, more importantly for my needs, has the Media Centre components fully integrated.
Beyond that I reckon XP is a wonderful platform for nearly everything I need to do on a PC. Most importantly because it is stable.

As I don't play games on my PC it's not a requirement at all really - the odd Neverwinter Nights evening is about it, and lets face it graphics capability isn't needed for that!

I have Media Center on my living room PC and I haven't seen any reports on what's so special about the Vista MC to make me upgrade it.

XP is good, though I have been using a fair bit of Ubuntu also...(I nearly wrote too, but Ubuntu too is a bit of a tongue-twister)

Well MC 2005 is very similar to Vista MC, but Vista MC is being enhanced constantly and MC 2005 is not! Anyway Vista MC is cheaper!

From my perspective MC 2005 is way cheaper as I already have it and was asking why I should bother to upgrade

You are absolutely correct.
There is no reason to upgrade an existing PC to Vista.
XP and MC2005 are still better OSs.
A new build is a difference matter.

Yeah, I can buy that (or not as the result is) :)
