How Wude!

Star Wars is 30 years old this week and neither Gareth nor I have rambled on about it yet! Nor did we do the usual "Happy Star Wars Day" back on May 4th.

Either we are unwell or our nerdiness is subsiding!

I once had a conversation with Hubert (Serena's not so little anymore brother) about Star Wars and what it meant to "my generation". He told me that The Matrix trilogy defined his generation in a similar manner. Somehow I don't see the new Spiderman films being used in a similar fashion!

I have to laugh about Gareth's love of Star Wars, given that I am just that little bit older than him and actually saw Star Wars at the cinema when it first came out in 1977. I'd love to say that it should give me the moral high ground on any discussions we have, but when it comes to Star Wars he is a much bigger nerd than I am (and I never saw Episodes 5 and 6 in the cinema until the remastered versions came out in the late 90s).

I recently bought the Lord of the Rings and Star Wars DVD Trivial Pursuit games... Next time Gareth is down I'll have to take him on at the latter! I'll keep it shrink wrapped so I can't be accused of cheating! I am currently undefeated at the Lord of the Rings one (although Rena gives me a close fight most times), but then my LOTR nerdiness knows no bounds!

James's Star Wars fact:

I first saw Star Wars in the cinema in 1980 when TESB. The Odeon (York) was showing it and the original one back to back. Dad must have got the times wrong as we ended up watching TESB then the original. D'oh! Still, I was 6 3/4 and I didn't care that much! :)

Ha-ha!! So you were pre-empting Lucas' appraoch in making the finale before the beginning!!? Brilliant.

I have to admit that I did consider posting the May the 4th blog entry, but I just wound GK up about it verbally instead!! :)

Why laugh at my love of Star Wars? I remember my first figure was a Tie Fighter Pilot and I must have been all of about 4 when my Gran bought me it. That started it, and I can't honestly say when I first saw them in the cinema, but I do remember seeing Return of the Jedi in the Kelburn Cinema with my gran in 1983 when it first came out. I had seen the others at Xmas on TV I think. Not sure.

Roll on the SW Trivial Pursuit mate, I would so love that. I got the 6-Episode Version when I left NAG and I've played it once. I also have the Classic Trilogy version which is really great - oops, and I think there's an Episode 1 version I have too :) Bring it on mate.

LOTR? I've read the books once and seen the films twice. You'd wipe the floor with me. Though I am impressed (and jealous) that Serena plays these things with you and can be a worthy opponent.

Some teachings for GK in there I feel...

Excuse me!! I have offered to play lots of board games but you can't be bothered or say "I am no fun"!! I even bought you one for Christmas that is still in its celophane!!! Take that comment back!!

As for SW trivial pursuit - I am willing to give it a go providing I have a glass of wine and Lauren to entertain me when I get bored.

I am not saying you don't play board games (and the one in the cellophane wrap needs more than two players), I said you won't watch Sci-Fi, diss all those types of movies and I have little hope in hell of getting you to play SW Trivial Pursuit with just me, like Jase does with Serena....

Whats the point in playing when you will know every answer and I will know absolutely none?? No fun that is it?

GF said...

Only by watching the films or indeed taking part can you change that. No point being defeatist before you even begin.

There are plenty of other things to play... I am sure we have an 80s music quiz DVD kicking around here somewhere... I only won that at its last outing as I was the oldest person playing and the others new nothing pre Bros!
I also have the general version of DVD Trivial Pursuit and the person who beat me at it last time is refusing a rematch on the grounds that they don't want to lose their bragging rights!

Oh and wine would always be provided for an "evening/late" session!

I'm in.

"When will "Wine" will "Wine" be famous!!"

Get that gag if you can... ;-)

Oh you've put the "Cat Amongst The Pigeons" with that one James...

If you guys are going to be like that then "I Quit". I definitely "Owe you nothing", its "too much", you make me "try" too hard. I'll just have to "drop the boy"s.

Oh yeah - here's a "chocolate box" for the girls to keep them quiet!
